Book Description
About the Author

The author has attempted to show in this book how Sanatana Dharma has a universal appeal and yet how it caters for all individual tastes and is suited to all temperaments and stages of mental evolution. The author has given a brief outline of the eternal truths of this great and most ancient religion in a highly presentable and readable form.

The author, known as Sri R. Krishnaswamy lyer in his poorvashrama, has written many books and articles in English, Tamil and Sanskrit and they have been written in lucid language so that they can be easily understood by all. The books were written in lucid language so that they can be easily understood by all. The books were written with the Sole aim of furthering and Propagating the cause of Sanarana Dharma, Advaitha Philosophy, Greatness of Sringeri Sharada Peetham and the teachings of their Holiness, Sringeri Jagadgurus.

The following books of Sri Jnanananda Bharathi Swamigal have been re-published and are available at Sri Sharada Peetham, Sringeri:

Preface

It was in response to the desire of Sri. R.Krishnamacharya, the talented editor of the Indian Mirror, Bombay to have "articles explaining the principles and ideals of Santana Dharma to the ordinary man quite ignorant of the same "that I sketched a series of articles which he published in his Journal under the heading "Talks on Santana Dharma" with his kind permission, I reprinted them with slight modifications to suit the form of a book. This is a slightly enlarged edition of the same.

As in my previous publications, I have tried to avoid technicalities and to present the subject as clearly and as simply as I can to the lay reader. But the nature of the subject dealt with here requires some careful attention and an earnest desire to learn on the part of the reader before it can begin to interest him and I crave of him such an attitude of receptivity in perusing the following pages.

I am conscious that the presentation in this book is very scanty and quite disproportionate to the vast literature which together makes up the Hindu Scriptures enunciating, expounding and illustrating the varied aspects of the Eternal Law. If this book stimulates the interest of the reader and creates in him a genuine desire to know more about our philosophy and religion, I shall be more than amply repaid for my efforts.

I am highly obliged to Sri C L Goswami, the revered Editor of the Kalayana Kalpataru, for the ready kindness Kalpataru, for the ready kindness with which, in spite of the various demands upon his time energy, he has graced this book with his valuable Foreword. I have thought it proper to reproduce also some extracts from the equally valuable Foreword with which the great scholar Sri . Basanta Kumar Chatterjee (Accountant General, Now retired ) favoured the prior edition.

I am intensely grateful to His Holiness Sri Jagadguru Sankaracharya Swaminah of Sringeri for the gracious permission accorded to me to place this humble booklet at His Holy Feet.

Foreword

The Learned author of this book, who has made a deep and intensive study of Sanantana Dharma, has tried to present a panoramic view of the Eternal Law, as he has aptly chosen to call it, in this small volume of less than two hundred pages and given a drief outline of the eternal truths of this great and most ancient religion in a highly presentable and readable form.

He has beautifully endeavoured to show in this treatise how Santana Dharma has a universal appeal and yet how it caters for all evolution, it is rightly called eternal because it draws its inspiration and seeks its guidance from the Veda, which is Eternal Knowledge coeval with God and does not embody the utterance of any individual and is therefore appropriately called the "Breath of the Lord".

The wisdom contained in it is infallible and ture for all ages in as much as it represents the eternal knowledge of God, who is free from all error and cannot be conceived to have any intention of misleading us. With these few words of introductions, I commend this slightly enlarged edition of his previous to have been asked by the learned author to write a Foreword to this second edition.
