Textile science and technology has been undergoing revolutionary changes. Newer fibres and their diverse applications have been overwhelming the textile industry. Environmental pollution matters related to textile industry are occupying an emergent role.
All said and done, textile industry is now fast becoming knowledge oriented. Moreover, for sustainable development the industry needs relevantly trained and knowledge equipped manpower. The book is a collection of articles written specifically for Ex- press Textiles, a weekly publication of Express Group of Newspapers. I started writing these articles during my period of temporary disability caused due to a road accident. Having spent an active life for about 30 years in various capacities in the textile industry, the pause was sickening.
During the recuperating period I took to computer and information technology to keep myself abreast of latest happenings in the field of textiles and other matters relating to technology, industry and economy. This became a productive divergence. The outcome was a series of articles, mainly based on emerging trends and technologies along with retrospection in the field of textiles.
The source of my information for writing articles has been my old collection of books on textiles, besides textile journals and week- lies. Lately I realised that most of the information contained in my collection of books has become obsolete, except for the basics in textile science and technology. Recourse to Internet was refreshing, rejuvenating and an awakening. This coupled with my thirty years of experiences in the divergent field of textiles grew into a storehouse for information provider. My first few days of connection with the cyber space resulted in an article entitled, "Cyberspace; an information galore for textile researchers," contained in this book.
