My dear children,
I wish to see this world of ours thrive. Every tree should bear fruit, every home be amidst green trees and every tree be home to a thousand birds. I visualize a world full of love, tolerance and happiness. Man today has begun to lead a robotic existence rushing everywhere, intent on one sole purpose, that of aggrandizement of material comforts. There is no thought to spare for the ancient spiritual values which he dismisses so carelessly. This is the example he is setting to impressionable children, our future generation.
The progress of a healthy nation can be seen in the way its children turn out. And good children will turn out only if the elders set before them a good example of uprightness, honesty and diligence. But what we see today is the opposite. Corruption, dishonesty, greed, and I and me-first policy is taking us back, not forward. Other nations who hold up the example of the India as a model now talk of our country in unflattering terms. All this needs to be changed.
A child's innocent mind is full of coufusion and doubt. His mental and physical growth is hampered by stress on the one hand and heavy school bags on the other. Blindly aping the west has become the norm and devalued our centuries old systems and traditions. From "Bharatiye" we have become "Indian" from "Chachaji" and "Mamaji" we have become "Uncle". We have discarded our old beliefs and values on the way to progress.
Every writer attempts to sow the seeds of love and harmony through his writings, whatever be the mode and style and form of his work. Writer Rakesh Chakra has a vast repertoire of work to his credit, such as poems, ghazals, stories and songs, but his short stories novels and Poems for children from the bulk of his work.
Corruption, hatred, violence, religious intolerance, etc. are seeing into every arena of life and society. One can see love and acceptance giving way to hate and intolerance. Love, faith, sacrifice and duty seem to become increasingly forgotten words and concepts.
Through the medium of these stories, Rakesh Chakra has attempted to touch on all these themes. He makes a sincere effort to reach out to the heart of the child and awaken in him a new and fresh understanding of the basic values of life.
