Prof. Gopi Chand Narang is a distinguished Indian theorist, literary critic, scholar, writer in Urdu and English and Fellow of Sahitya Akademi. His Urdu literary criticism has incorporated a range of modern theoretical frameworks including stylistics, structuralism, post-structuralism and Eastern poetics. Widely acclaimed as a great thinker, Prof. Narang has thirteen books in English, ten books in Hindi and more than fifty books in Urdu to his credit apart from more than two hundred scholarly articles in reputed Indian and foreign journals. In his long and illustrious career, Prof. Gopi Chand Narang has been richly decorated and feted with a large number of honors and awards, chief among which are: Padma Bhushan, Sahitya Akademi Award, Sitara-e- Imtiaz, Iqbal Centenary Gold Medal Award, Moorti Devi Award, Iqbal Samman, Ghalib Award and Mir Award among others. For his outstanding contributions to Urdu literature, Sahitya Akademi conferred its highest honour, Sahitya Akademi Fellowship in 2009.
