About the Author
Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, a spiritual leader and humanitarian, was born in 1956 in southern India. He was often found deep in meditation as a child. At the age of four, he astonished his teachers by reciting the Bhagavad Gita. Gurudev founded The Art of Living, an educational and humanitarian organisation, through which his teachings and service initiatives have touched the lives of 370 million people worldwide. Today with a presence in over 156 countries, The Art of Living is one of the largest volunteer-based organisations in the world.
Fasting or detox is a tradition that is still being followed by almost all the major religious around the world. Cultures have universally followed this tradition of staying away from food, either for God or in the belief that it is an ideal route towards spiritual upliftment.
While it is true that a willing abstinence from food does help in going deeper in meditation, but not many known that fasting is a way to detox the system, physically, emotionally and mentally. In other words, fasting helps the body to go on a holiday from its daily routine of ingestion, secretion, digestion, absorption and excretion.
