Preface
An attempt has been made here to capture some glimpses of the life and work of Mahatma Gandhi in the multiple choice quize format. The facets covered range from Gandhiji's family and personal history, South Africa phase and his role in national movement to his thought and philosophy, Gandhian literature, institutions and contemporaries. For a quiz book, the contents are fairly comprehensive, covering such main aspects where the method of quizzing can be usefully applied. At the end a photo quiz has also been added to test one's ability to recognise eminent persons and institutions connected with the life and activities of Gandhiji.
While formulating quizzes on Gandhiji, effort has been made to cover not only such aspects which are very well known, but also those which are comparatively less known. Besides enabling the readers to assess the extent and depth of their knowledge and understanding of Gandhiji, it will stimulate the desire to know more and more about Gandhiji and his plan of action. Obviously enough, the relevance of this knowledge and understanding for the present day world is, indeed, very fresh.
The material for this quiz book has been culled from large many books, Indian and foreign, available on the subject. I am very grateful to their authors and publishers for the valuable help received.
I must thank Dr. Hari Om Varma, Mrs. Nirmal Talwar and Dr. Ashok Govil for their valuable assistance in the preparation of this book. Special thanks are due to my wife, Savitri Agrawal, for constant help and encouragement.
