This book, being reprinted within a short period of six months, is in date of the growing interest in Gandhi and his philosophy. There is video conflict, insecurity and debasement of eternal human values all over the world. While clouds of thermo-nuclear war are still hovering, newer dangers posed by the annihilation of life on the earth through environmental pollution, over warming of the earth and attack of ultra violet rays resulting from widening ozone hole loom large love us the lopsided development that started with the industrial revolution in Bunge has now engulfed the whole world. This book gives a glimpse of the Gandhian way to rectify the situation.

As the physical for a second print came up for discussion, a set of two volumes entitled Conflict Resolution through Non-Violence: Role of Universities on related themes was ready for the press. Suggestions for new studies and publications also came up for deliberations. It was decided to incorporate all these and also future publications in a series called gandhian studies and Peace Research Series. This volume is the first in this series.

I am confident that the series will be as popular as its first volume and the efforts that we are making in Gandhi Bhawan, University of Delhi, to contribute to the creation of better and more livable world will make further headway through the medium of these publications.
