Women constituted the keystone in the arch of Indian society. No doubt the Rig Vedic Women in India enjoyed high status in society and their condition was good. Even the women were provided opportunity to attain high intellectual and spiritual standard. As a general rule, women had less power than men in both Han China and Imperial Rome. Social and political structures were male dominated. In many societies , women's primary roles revolved around motherhood and managing a household. While women in many different places and at different times had this in common, there were significant differences in how women performed these roles depending on kinship relations. Amrendra Verma (born on 28th July, 1973 at Allahabad) graduated from Allahabad University, Allahabad with First Class Honours with Distinction in History. He did his M.A. in History from Allahabad University, Allahabad securing First Class Second position. He holds Ph.D. degree in History from Allahabad university , Allahabad. He is a good teacher and a researcher. He has taught in different colleges under different universities for a decade. He has written about four books on History and Political Science. He has contributed more than ten papers to leading Journals as well as to different books and newspapers.
Differences between men and women in early civilizations . We will learn and explore the differences that men and women faced in social expectations, political representation, and the general treatment of the two in some of the earliest civilizations dating back to around 3000 B.C through the middle ages around 1000 A.D. Each of these civilizations had different cultures , religions, geographic locations, and social beliefs that helped them affirm themselves as some of the most advanced civilizations of their time. Here we will try and understand the differences and similarities that these civilizations had when pertaining to gender roles and the expectations that men and women had in their civilizations. To start off our journey lets travel back to one of the earliest civilizations and the most powerful civilization of the time, Mesopotamia.
