About the Book Psychological knowledge is applied to various spheres of human activity, including issues related to everyday life-such as family, education and employment-and to the treatment of mental health problems. Psychologists attempt to understand the role of mental functions in individual and social behaviour, while also exploring the underlying physiological and neurological processes.

The present text has been designed as an Introductory manual for the students of psychology Not only does the text give the students a compendium on the history and the sub-fields of psychology, but also enables them to get better insight into the research methods and practices currently in trend in psychology. Aimed at equipping students with the wherewithal to know psychology as comprehensively as possible, the book also incorporates the challenges and shortcomings of psychology.

About the Author Prof. R.S. Yadav, teacher at Amritsar University and has worked with various pedagogical institutes. He has authored a number of books on psychology and contributes articles to journals of repute.

Preface Psychology refers to the academic and applied discipline which involves the scientific study of human mental functions and behaviour. Occasionally it also relies on symbolic interpretation and critical analysis, although these traditions are less pronounced than in other social sciences such as sociology.
