Harivarasanam is a famous stotra written by Konnakath Janakiyamma in Sanskrit. The mellifluous stotra, which is also called Hariharatmajashatakam, is popular as the lullaby of Sabarimala deity Shri Ayyappa. There has been a long-standing controversy over the authorship of the stotra. In this work, the author analyzes the various aspects of the stotra.
Dr MV Natesan, (Prof. Ret., Sree Sankaracharya University of Sanskrit-Kalady) is an independent director of Rail Vikas Nigam Ltd., Ministry of Railways, and works as an Adjunct Faculty member of Amrita School of Arts and Science. There are sixteen books and more than fifty research articles to his credit. Dr. Natesan has received several awards, like Agamananda Puraskar (2011), Panditsratna Puraskar (2016), Acharyaseeshta Puraskar (2022), and Kavarikkulam Kandan Kumaran Award (2023). The present work, Harivarasanam: The Lullaby of Lord Ayyappa, is a commentary on the famous stotra Harivarasanam, composed by Konnakath Janakiyamma in the year 1923.
