About the Book About the Book Higher education not only decides the future of the youth of this country, but also of our country herself. In India, the diversity of the population and the sheer numbers are astoundingly astronomical. We have to strike a balance between both quality and quantity, how so much they may appear to be lying in the opposite dimensions, but still we have to hold them together to find a common centre for ensuring a net progress of our populations... India prides herself in being a soft power and a population of highly educated, trained and skilled workforce. Certainly, higher education is the fuel for this soft power. Thus the role of higher education in India is not only pivotal, but also defining and transformative.

About the Authors Dr. Ram Chander is currently working as the Librarian & Head, Department of library and Information Sciences at Aggarwal College Ballabgarh, Faridabad. He earned his doctorate in Library and Information Sciences at Sambalpur University, Orissa. Dr. Ram Chander is a dynamic personality with twenty five years of professional experience. Besides, he also has completed one Major Research Project sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi. Currently he is guiding students of M.Lib. Sc., M.Phil. and Ph.D. from other universities. He has also participated in various seminars and conferences and also has published 67 research papers in Journals of National and International repute. He has also authored as well as edited several books related to Library and Information Sciences. He has been actively organizing National and International Conferences, Seminars and Workshops He is a leading office bearer of Library Professionals Association and member of the Executive Council of Haryana Library Association for the last several years and life member of others association like: ILA, SLA, IASLIC and DLA.

Dr. Krishan Kant, an academician par excellence, Principal at Aggarwal College Ballabgarh, has a distinguished teaching carrier of 32 years. He has been guiding research students for a very long time, has published/presented 300 research papers and authored/edited 09 books. He has already completed four Research Projects and one awarded by BRNS (DAE) is in progress. Besides attending several workshops, he has organized thirty six National / International Conferences / Seminars / Symposia in the college and delivered 60 invited talks on various technical issues as well as chaired technical sessions in various National, International Conferences and Seminars. He is a life member of 9 (National and international academic societies and has also visited several countries for academic pursuits. He has also been honored with the best Principal award (2016) by EETCRS (ABA-16) and has been conferred the Excellent Principal in Haryana award by National Haryana Education Summit & Awards (2015). He is a Governor Awardee Haryana for two consecutive years (2017 & 2018) for various Youth Red Cross activities.

Preface Dear Readers,

It is my pleasure to dedicate this volume on higher education to you all.

We are at the intersection of time when higher education is growing in magnitude and dimensions in India. After the colonial phase, and the struggling decades, the Indian economy is on firmer grounds, and a collective need to make the presence of India felt on the global scene is felt. One of the most important things for achieving this is higher education and research. This is also the time when National Education Policy 2019 ha been presented by the Ministry of Education. It is not all, an unprecedented calamity, for this generation in the form of the COVlD-19 pandemic is also. underway. In view of all these circumstances, it is important to look at the issues and challenges the academics in general, academic institutions, teachers, and students have to face.

This volume aptly has 19 chapters covering a wide range of issues under consideration. Some of the contexts that have been explored here for gaining a larger perspective on the present and future of Higher Education in India include The National Education Policy 2019; need of innovation and, pedagogy; employment and, employability of the students who receive Higher Education; ICT and, online mode of teaching; the Covid pandemic; the need of reforms in Higher Education; National aspirations and, how they can be met with Higher Education; blended learning and MOOCS; and the role of libraries in Higher education.
