A Himalayan Love Story is set in the Darjeeling Hills. Tshering Ghendun La, beautiful and intelligent falls in love with Jaimie Mackenzie. He is a brilliant student, and a good sportsman. They meet when they enroll in North Point to do their undergrad courses. Tshering is the daughter of the hotelier Jigme Ghendun La, and his young concubine Kumling. Jaimie is the son of the Tea Planter James Mackenzie and the very beautiful tea plucker, Maya. It was an age, when young men from Britain who came out to India, had to sign that they would not marry without their employer's permission. Jaimie is born out of wedlock, and is initially not accepted by his father, while his mother is thrown out of her job.
The author has created this story, to tell of a time when babies born to British fathers, and Nepalese mothers, often found themselves abandoned, and were taken in by The Doctor Grahame Homes in Kalimpong.
Vien Singh completed his Senior Cambridge at St. Paul's School, Darjeeling, and his English Honours at North Point College also in Darjeeling.
