Human languages have played a vital role in the course of human development throughout the world. Every individual has intent to learn new languages due to various reasons such as interest, passion, adaptation to certain societies, exploring the unexplored, protecting and preserving and so on. Adding on to this we need a wide variety of dictionaries to classify them accordingly. There are many tribal and endangered languages which have found a place in the encyclopaedias and documents which need to be revived for survival. With the advent of literature words acquire new meanings as well as usage. This is a big challenge for the language experts.
The Government of India through Ministry of Human Resource Development has created an academic environment for applied research. Preserving of smaller languages also becomes an important aspect to cater the needs of researchers, amateur linguists, language lovers and the language community as a whole. With this objective this tribal dictionary has been prepared.
The Lepcha language is a tribal language of the indigenous tribes of West Bengal and Sikkim. Hope this new dictionary will help those for whom it has been meticulously prepared.
