I have tried to write the book 'History of Ancient India' for the benefit of the students. The book is written in simple language. As Thomas Carlyle put it, "the appreciation of the books is the true knowledge of the world today." So any book should be read. In that sense no book can be bad or evil. This belief is etched in my mind by my sister Sima Baidya, a professor in the Department of International Relations at Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. I am grateful to Manas Dey of Concept Publications for entrusting me to write this book, 'History of Ancient India'. I am indebted deeply to Ashok Mittal of Concept Publications Pvt. Ltd. for his constant help, support and guidance. Many professors and students from West Bengal, Tripura, and Bangladesh have given me their valuable suggestions and opinions" at different times. Their feedback has inspired and educated me a lot. I am forever indebted to them. Nevertheless, I am the person who is solely responsible for spelling errors and other mistakes. I hope everyone will look at it with an apologetic and kind heart. I would, heartily welcome any reader's opinion for the betterment of this book. I would consider this book of mine a fruitful one if it is of little use to them for whom it is written with great passion and honesty. In the end I would like to mention that this book would not have been written without the support of my wife Mrs. Sanjita Baidya and mother Mrs. Rekha Baidya.
