Bhunga huts are round huts of Kutch (western India) which are found in the northern parts of the region. These traditional kutchi houses are considered as engineering wonders as they preserve internal environment of the house. Kutch is a very earthquake prone area and these traditional Bhungas are built in a way to protect them against natural calamities like desert storms and earthquakes. Bhunga hut is made of mud walls and a thatched roof. Walls made of bamboo sticks are tied by grass ropes. Then cow dung and mud are used as the wall plaster to make them beautiful and strong Geometrical aesthetic motifs and elaborate designs are painted on them. The mud walls preserve the temperature inside the house. This kit will help in understanding the basis of vernacular architecture and also give an exposure to our rich traditional culture prevalent in the rural areas, in a way which is fun and interactive. The template inside has to be cut, colored, folded and then joined to make a hut. Follow instruction for cutting and folding given on the cover flap.
