He was former Lecturer Department of Ancient History, Culture & Archaeology, University of Allahabad and later Visting Professor at the School of International Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru Univversity, New Delhi was and Indian Foreign Services Officer. He served in many countries of the World including U. S. A. former U.S.S.R. Yugoslavia, P.R.C., Argentina , Mexico, Cuba, and Sri Lanka in Ambassadorial and other prestigious assignments. He was the President of the Colombo Plan in 1990 and the special envoy of the Prime minister of India for Africa in 1991-92. He knows several languages including Tibetan which facilitated him as Govt. of India's Liaison Officer with his Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1961-62. He also served as India's charged Affairs in Beijing from 1973-76, when he successfully negotiated the agreement for restoration of Ambassadorial relation between India and china.
