"Indian Classical Literature: A Brief Synopsis" represents an attempt, if only a crude one, to broaden the prospect of the literature aspirants. Belonging to the specialization of Indian writing in English, Indian Classical Literature always fascinated me. Indian Classical literature is the root that has bestowed Indian literature glory and significance in the present scenario. Indian literature cannot subsist without following the footprints of the classics. Contemporary playwright Girish Karnad has taken classics as the base of his dramas like Yayati, Naga-Mandala, Hayavadana, Tughla etc.
As we know that literature is the reflection of our society and as such classical literature holds an important position. It makes us familiar with our old traditions, mythology, beliefs and social system. Indian Classical Literature holds classics like The Mahabharatha.
The classics are forever that though they are supposed to have happened a long time back, we can relate them to the present-day aspects. We can compare the classics of Indian Literature with present day or in the future to analyze or understand what is happening actually. We can also argue on that point that the world is changing and how we can still hold on to ancient literature. We can see that situations are same though everything else is changing. It's very important to hold on to our traditions; culture as these factors makes us what we are. These factors give us our identity. Therefore it is very important to know about classical literature that forms the background of our existence.
Indian Classics are important to analyze the world irrespective of the time we live in. It can always help us in some way or other to deal with things or to understand this world better.
This book will give an insight into the concept of Classical Literature, keeping in view the undergraduate syllabus and students. The first chapter starts with the definition and introduction of classical literature followed by four chapters that deal with the various units as declared in the CBCS syllabus.
