The Central Institute of Indian Languages was established on 17% July 1969 with an aim to help, evolve and implement the language policy of the Government of India and to coordinate the development of Indian languages through research, training, material production for their use in education, administration and other public domains.
The Institute was charged with the responsibility of serving as a nucleus to bring together all the research and literary output from various linguistic streams to a common head and narrowing the gap between basic research and developmental research in the fields of languages and linguistics in India.
The work of the Institute consists of research, training and production of teaching materials. The results of these activities can be seen in its more than 400 publications. The Institute has helped many tribal language groups to be codified, described and used in education. The Institute has published in social, psychological and folkloristic aspects of language and culture.
The present volume is a collection of research papers produced by an eminent scholar of our times during his academic career. This anthology of Indo-Aryan Studies in India is the first of its kind for the Central Institute of Indian Languages. Hope it will be well-received by the scholarly circles.
