Rural India, its people, and its natural resources play a vital role in the Indian economy and society Unfortunately, the issues and problems facing rural people and places receive little attention from policy makers or the national media, and few residing in urban or suburban India have any idea what it is really like to live and work in rural India today. Although national and inter- national agencies introduced many programmes and policies for rural welfare, the reality of rural development is still far away.
This book examines several important problems faced by people of rural India. It analyses the status of rural infrastructure, level of rural poverty, issues of water management, rural illiteracy, issues in the agricultural sector, problems of rural women, issues in the health sector, trends in rural development, and so on. This book will be of much use for researchers, academicians, policy-makers, programme managers and people who are involved in the process of rural development.
