This book highlights the inscriptions of the Minor Chalukya Dyansties which held sway over various parts of Andhra Pradesh during 7th to 16th centuries. The core material of the work is epigraphy available in different languages like Sanskrit, Kannada and Telugu. Some of these are very rare records, and these have been rendered into Roman script for the benefit of the scholars. These records have been studied analytically and critically. and are preceded by a brief introductory note. The records are of much value in reconstructing the socio- cultural and political conditions of Medieval Andhradesa.

This volume pertaining to the Inscriptions of the Minor Chalukyas of Andhradesa is a welcome addition to the publications of Andhra history and culture.
The collection and compilation of inscriptions is in a way a thankless job; and as such, unless the scholar is a dedicated and sincere student of Epigraphy as well as history, it does not yield good results. It is gratifying to note that the present work presents in a sequential form all the epi- graphs of those ruling families that initiated the Kannada and the Telugu literatures in the tenth and eleventh centuries. A knowledge of the source-material bearing on the study of the history and culture of the time is essential for a student as well as a researcher.
The author deserves congratulations on successfully bringing to fruition a task that fills in a lacuna in the studies of the history of the Telugus. It is hoped that he will continue his endeavours in this positive and purposeful direction, and will bring out further volumes to the satis- faction of all those interested in Andhra history.
