Recognising the importance of inter-faith relations in a pluralistic country like India, this book attempts to present the reality of inter-religious relations in India - problems and challenges, possibilities and prospects with a concrete suggestion. The book narrates how thousands and thousands of precious lives had been perished due to inter-faith clashes on one hand, and the attempts made by various religious organisations, communities and individuals towards securing inter-faith harmony in India on the other hand. The book also discusses the contribution of evangelical Christians towards inter-faith relations which is neglected in academic writings. It finally suggests practical solutions to this pathetic problem from a Christian perspective by offering the alternative understanding of inter-faith relations and the ways of relating people of various religions.

The importance of inter-faith relations in a pluralistic country like India, which is the birthplace of most of the living world religions, cannot be overstressed. Many thousands of precious lives had been perished due to inter-religious clashes and the amount of properties destroyed due to communal clashes on the religious ground maybe beyond anybody's ability to record and reproduce. Such is the gravity of the problem! It is frustrating to see that the Government at the state level as well as at the Centre do not make sincere effort to curb the problem! This problem will be upsurging unabated unless political and religious authorities, and as a matter of fact, all of us in our own capacity make sincere effort to contain inter-faith conflicts and clashes.
My attempt in this book includes the factual presentation of inter-religious relations in India, highlighting some historical facts and analysing the present situation. I am looking at the attempts made by various religious communities, organisations and individuals to ease the conflict and bring a lasting solution to this problem. Inter-religious relations had been grossly misunderstood by many, so also the way they try to bring unity among religions faulty. I have proposed a new understanding of inter-religious relations and given practical suggestions to relate with one another from a Christian perspective.
