Ayurveda, originally evolved with eight faculties nearly 5000 years ago. There was little significant addition to the knowledge since then, though the successive systems of medicine expanded enormously with several specializations while absorbing the advances made in different fields of sciences. Further, many texts became disappeared with passage of time either totally or in parts.
Shalya tantra and Kaumarbhritya bore the maximum grunt of foreign, cultural and religious invasions, time and other such factors, which led to loss of the knowledge of this life science i.e. Ayurveda.
It appears very much paradoxical and unfortunate that when Sushrut is world-wide accepted as the father of surgery (including plastic surgery) some among the Ayurvedic faculty claim about his and other contemporaries' ignorance about kidney and urinary system. Is it really possible for such a great surgeon to be ignorant about a gross body structure like kidney and excel in other human systems and plastic surgery? We need to introspect before labelling the great ancient Indian scientist as ignorant.
Presently a section of scientist community worldwide believes (based on scientific evidence) that ancients were technologically very well advanced and not the primitive as is prevalently perceived.
Lacunae, developed because of lost treasure of knowledge, have to be filled along with the further development as science is ever changing and the field of knowledge is eternally expanding.
RAV has very humbly initiated in this direction by taking a small step in the form of interactive workshops, which started about four years ago. The present one is the second in the third generation series of workshops, which exclusively deals with a single human physiological system along with its pathological states.
This appears very adventurous to many as the minds of many Ayurvedic faculties still hover around the very basic knowledge without realizing that any physiological system in the human body behaves differently at different stages of life from embryonic to elderly stage and the treatment varies accordingly. Unfortunately the literature is scattered and demands intricate introspection and thorough understanding of the subject matter.
With this third generation workshop the young minds are initiated to think differently. This in turn sparked the participating experts to comprehend the subject and try to gain as much control over the subject as possible.
