Karnataka being the state of cultural heritage is rich with art and architecture. The Jainism in Karnataka flourished under the Gangas, Chalukya and Rastrakuta dynasties. During the rule of these dynasties numerous monument in the form of Basadis, temple and magnificent statues and stambhas were built all along to spread the principles of Jainism. The Jain monuments include smaller shrines, Jain temples (known as Bastis or Basadis), gommata statues and sthambas (pillars). These monuments and structures are existing still today and drawing the attentions of Jain pilgrims in particular and tourists from all over the world for their historical significance.
