This book is an attempt to examine the comparative views of J.P. and Dr. Lohia, the staunch socialist thinkers of India. They had the credit not only to accelerate the pace of socialist movement in India but also to enrich the very concept of Socialism through their critiques of west-centered paradigms. However, their combined efforts to establish the Congress Socialist Party in 1934, they differed in their analysis of socialism and schemes of social and economic reconstructions. This book aims at the origin and meaning of the word 'socialism' and to compare the different European socialists with J.P. and Dr. Lohia. It is in the context of these divergences and convergences that real genesis of socialist thought in India can be truely comprehended. Unfortunately no single work in both India and abroad has yet been done to focus on this comparison. The present work is an attempt to fill this gap.

Dr. Akshilesh Kumar Pandey is Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science, G.U.P.G. College, Baheri, Bareilly (U.P.). He has been a meritorious scholar throughout his academic career. His quest for knowledge began after passing out his Higher Secondary, B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degree from the Benares Hindu University, Varanasi.

Dr. Pandey has a very long teaching experience working at different P.G. Colleges, at Gorakhpur, Ghazipur and Varanasi, He is colsely associated with the research works and other academic activities at the college and University (M.J.P. Roholkhand University, Bareilly (U.P.) level. His many articles have been published in many National Journals and other standard magazines. He has participated in many National Seminars and Refresher Courses as a resource person and actively participated in National Conferences held at different places in the country. Now this book is being published to judge to what extent he has succeeded in his endeavor.
