With the introduction of the art of printing many of the old and excellent treaties have been made available to the World at large. But owing to difference in the readings and certain inaccuracies which sometimes creep into such editions, there are bound to be some doubts in the minds of people especially when they approach the books directly not through an acharya capable of clearing those doubts. The misgivings that may arise in these ways are due to the lack of proper equipment in us and certainly not to any deficiency in the science.
The work "Jyothisha Tatva Sudharnava" that is now published in Tamil grab for the first time is a great work. . It contains seven chapters with 1715 Slokas. The original is in Sanskrit. The author is unknown. It has been translated into Hindi, the linguafranca of North India by an erudite scholar Sundara Sarma. He has written a gloss to the work giving quotations from about 124 other important treaties on Astrology by 64 different authors which forms a useful Veda mecum for comparative study and research. There is no doubt that the publication in Tamil of this precious book is a boon to those interested in this wonderful science.
The translation has been done by Mr.S.A.Kumaraswamy Achariar of Porto - Novo with the help of Mr. V. Srinivasa Rao of Tanjore. Mr. S.A.
