In 1893, Swami Vivekananda went to the United States to participate in the Parliament World's Religions and got overwhelming success and public attention. Between 1893 to 1897, Vivekananda travelled extensively to many cities of the United States and England and conducted hundreds of public and private lectures and classes.
The book Karma Yoga was first published in 1896. The lectures of this book were recorded by professional stenographer Joseph Josiah Goodwin (initially Goodwin was hired to record Swamiji's lectures, later he became a friend of follower of Vivekananda). The book is divided into eight chapters. The primary topic of all these chapters is "Karma" or "work". In this book, Vivekananda discussed Bhagavad Gita's concepts on Karma Yoga and explained the way one should do his or her works or fulfill his duties without being attached to it in order to attain liberation.
