Shri Siyaramsharan Gupt ji was born on September 4, 1894, in Chirgaon village of Jhansi district of Bundelkhand region in modern Uttar Pradesh. Also known as "Bapu", Shri Gupt was the younger among the litterateur brother-duo; the elder being renowned Shri Maithili Sharan Gupt ji, alias "Dadda". Infused with values of Bhagwan Shri Ram and his brother Lakshman ji, the two brothers served nation and Hindi with their inspiring literature.
"Kaki" was one of the most famous stories by Shri Gupt. Courtesy Sahitya Sadan, this story was telecast on TV as a children's film by NCERT in Hindi and 13 other languages. Among Gupt ji's famous poems was "Ek Phool Ki Chaah". Shri Gupt wrote many stories and poems focussed on children. All the stories in this book have been de- rived from Shri Gupt's children's literature.
In 1909, poet-duo established Sahitya Sadan, in their village, Chirgaon (Jhansi). Sahitya Sadan has been the original publisher of all the works by the poet-brother-duo. Timeless classics like "Saket", "Bharat Bharati" and "Panchvati" are some of the most famous works published by Sahitya Sadan. They published many more, thus providing invaluable service to Hindi and the country.
