Swarupananda Brahmachari (Tapan Bose Mahasaya) is an Indian Kriya Yogi and Guru who was born at Habibpur village in Nadia district of West Bengal in the year 1954. He was born to his highly spiritualised parents, namely Sri Narendranath Bose, his father and Ashoka Bose, his mother. Belonging to the great spiritual lineage of Mahavatar Babaji, he was initiated into Kriya Yoga by Paramahamsa Hariharananda, a Kriya Yogi of highest spiritual stage at the tender age of eight years only. He was initiated into Brahmacharya and Sannyas on 19.04.1979 by his revered Gurudev Paramahamsa Hariharanandaji. In the same year 1979, Swarupanandaji attained the highest spiritual stage of Yoga, i.e complete communion with God. He obtained his Masters Degree in English literature from the University of Calcutta and joined Indian Railway Services. During his short tenure in the Indian Railways, he initiated many into Kriya Yoga. He is a Kriya Yoga Master in the lineage of Yogiraj Lahiri Mahasaya who has been initiated into all the advanced stages of Kriya Yoga by Paramahamsa Hariharananda. At present, he lives in the suburb of Kolkata within the state of West Bengal, India. An ordained and anointd Guru in the spiritual tradition of Kriya, Swarupananda Brahmachari teaches and imparts Kriya Yoga techniques directly to his disciples who are living in all parts of India and the world. The book entitled `Kriya Yoga' authored by Gurudev Swarupanandaji in Begali has gained wide circulation in recent times. The comprehensiveness, lucidity and brevity of the book and its cogent exposition has been appreciated and acclaimed by a variegated readership that includes both devoted Kriya Yoga practitioners on one hand and those uninitiated into the discourse on the other end of the spectrum.
