Param pujya Swami Nityananda Giri Maharaj was born on Sunday, the 2 January 1955. Being averse to worldly life he began to look for the ultimate truth and came in touch with different saints of India. He was initiated in: kriya-yoga by the great Acharya Shrimat Swami Shuddhananda Giri Maharaj on the 2 January 1976 and had the permission to become an Ashramite of Sevayatan, Jhargram, W.B. in 1978. Since his entry in Sevayatan, he began penance, started with the full inspiration of his preceptor. In 1982 he was initiated to Brahmacharya by Srimat Swami Bhabananda Giri Maharaj and left for Varanasi with a view of getting knowledge on Vedanta. While studying in Varanasi, he had the occasion to come in touch with Shri Satyacharan Lahiri, the grandson of Lahiri Baba. He went through Vedanta at Sampurnananda University, Varanasi for long period of 12 years and was awarded Vedantacharya with first class. He then proceeded to solitary caves of the Himalayas at Gangotri for deep meditation. He practised meditation in the desolate valley of Kashmir. Hatha-yoga, Raj- yoga and Kriya-yoga were fully capacitated by him and was declared Yogacharya in Varanasi.
Yoga is the original container of Indian culture on which most of our scriptures depend. Yoga is the only reliable and firm way that leads to spiritual sphere. That Yogi is superior to all Veteran workers, Wise men and Ascetics was imparted to Arjuna by Lord. He inspired Arjuna to become a yogi. "Tapaswibhyodhiko Yogi jnanibhyopi matodhikah karmibhyaschadhiko yogi tasmad yogi bhabarjuna." (Gita 6.46)
One who practises even a little Yoga escapes from great fear. "Swalpamapyasya dharmasya trayate mahato bhayat."
An erroneous idea is in vogue among us that the practice of yoga during house hold life is not possible. But life histories of celebrated saints reveals that same tendency. Family life also became successful in their meditation and achieved their goal. The result of practising Yoga is great and accessible. "Susukham Kartumabyam" is the clear direction as noted in different chapters of Shrimad Bhagavata Gita. With the help of this yoga men can attain the knowledge of Advaita. They can declare with their heads upright "Kah shokah ko mohah ekatvamanupashyatah" "Vedahametam pursued mahantam Aditya Varnam tamosah parastat. Tameba Vditva atimrityumeti nanyah pantha Vidyate ayanaya."
As there are different entities and greatness on Hato yoga, Raja yoga, Lay yoga and Mantra yoga, so also there exists particular greatness in the Kriya Yoga. It can clearly be understood that "Kriya Yoga" is the total result of four Yogas. Secondly it is ascertained clearly that when we are connected with our respiration and breathing system it can be termed as." Kriya Yoga". The impetus to the writing of the present work came after see the sordid conditions prevailing in the society. I don't feel embarrassed to admit that there is no depth in our thought, no clarity in between life style and behaviour, resulting in discomfort. We are not able to compass the direction towards selection of real way of life. So we reap so much unhappiness, restlessness, displeasure, tears and sufferings. We feel insecure and uncertainty in every step.
