Lokanath Swami was formally initiated by Srrla Prabhupada in 1972 and awarded sannyasa in 1975. In 1976, on Srila Prabhupada's instruction Lokanath Swami organized Padayatra across India. The first leg of the journey was from Vrndavan to Mayapur via Prayag, stopping at the 1977 Kumbha-mela.
In the course of his Padayatra service Lokanath Swami traveled by foot to many of the major tirthas and sacred sites in India. He has attended and assisted in the organization of the '89, '95 and 2001 Kumbha-melas in Allahabad as well as the Melas in Haridwar, Ujjain and Nasika, Today he continues that service to Prabhupada as the Global Padayatra Minister. He travels and preaches worldwide, and as an ISKCON Regional Secretary he oversees several temple projects in Maharashtra, India.
