Arabic is spoken as a mother tongue by 320 million people across 22 countries. Arabic is the language or one of the official languages of Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Yemen, Lebanon, Syria, Jordan, Palestine-Israel, Iraq, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar, the United Arab Emirates and Oman. It is also widely used in Sub-Saharan countries such as Chad, Mali and Mauretania. Over a billion people can read the Arabic script even if they can't understand the language.
