If you are one of those downcast by the fret and fever of modern life, discover the real meaning and the true joy of The Life Beautiful as Sadhu Vaswani so aptly names it!
The divine inspiration behind the book is that of Sri Krishna - who, to Sadhu Vaswani's mind, symbolises the essence of the life beautiful. The profound and lofty ideas that constitute the daily readings of this book, give us in effect, the message of Sri Krishna's Song Divine, the Bhagavad Gita - "Accept no convention! Live, everyday, making Krishna your Leader!"
Begin your day by reflecting on one of its inspiring thoughts; carry its message in your heart as you retire to your nightly nest. You will draw strength and hope from the spiritual treasures which this book brings together for you. You will re-discover the joy and peace that are your birthright, as a child of God!
Sadhu Vaswani was a modern day saint; he was a visionary idealist, a far-sighted educationist; he was a philosopher, a poet with heavenly inspiration; he was a great spiritual leader admired by men of light and leading in east and west; but all the adulation and fame he received sat lightly on him- for, he aspired to be a servant of the sadhus, rishis and saints of this ancient land; above all, he aspired to be a servant of suffering humanity. Thousands of seeking souls were drawn to him, eager to listen to every word he uttered, eager to obey his every request. But he was the soul of humility, an angel of compassion, an elder brother to all the bereft and bereaved, to men of all races and religions, a brother too, of birds and animals- a brother of all creation. He shared his all with all- the joy of his heart, the benedictions of his blessed life, the bliss of at-one-ment with God. For him, this was true mukti, true self-realisation- sharing with others the joy of the Eternal.
Sadhu Vaswani was born on November 25, 1879, in Hyderabad-Sind, a land that has given birth to many dervishes (contemplatives) and fakirs (men of renunciation). He was a brilliant student; he became an "Ellis Scholar", and soon after doing his Masters, was appointed as Professor of History and English in the Vidyasagar College at Calcutta.
In this book are brought together a few of my "thoughts", indicating what true life is, the Life Beautiful.
What is its secret? My answer to this question is in one simple word, Krishna! Let Krishna be your Leader on the path of Life! Accept no convention! Live, every day, making Him your Leader.
Krishna and His teaching, the Gita, Krishna and His life, Krishna and His communion with the poor and simple, Krishna and His affectionate call to the sinner in the strife of life, are to my mind, summed up in the words, the Life Beautiful.
When I think of Krishna as the Babe of Brindaban, I say to myself, "Here is the very picture of the Life Beautiful." Bathed in love and mirroring love, the Parama Purusha, the Supreme, manifested Himself in the Mathura jail! Bending in humility before the Child and, with folded hands, worshipping Him, I see Vasudeva and Devaki offering flowers of reverence to the Babe, singing songs to Him and seeing in His eyes a light making all things new.
