A.S. Raman has been associated with the Indian art scene since 1940s and he was the first Indian to contribute an article on contemporary Indian art in Studio magazine of London. He was the art critic of The Times of India and contributed articles for Marg and was editor of Illustrated Weekly of India for nine years (1959-1968). He is the Fellow of the Andhra Pradesh Lalit Kala Akademi and Dean of Art Faculty of Tamil University, Tanjore. In 1978 he was honoured with D.Lit. by Andhra University. Presently he is publication adviser to South Zone Cultural Centre. He is a Fellow of Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi.
