Shri K. L. Mukhopadhyay informed me sometime in 1965 that the stock of Magnet Dowsing was low and requested me go ahead with the revision of the book for a new edition. My revered father left this world unexpectedly on 22nd June, 1964 after a brief illness. His sudden departure put a great burden on my feeble shoulders and I found myself in a quandary. My father's Teletherapy cases were to be handled as also new cases were to be examined. Whatever time was left was consumed by a heavy correspondence inland and overseas. For all these reasons I could not undertake the work of revising this book. But when Shri K. L. Mukhopadhyay informed me that the book was out of print, I left all work and started on this.
It is a very difficult task to revise a book written by a great scholar like my father but I had to undertake it, as there was nobody else who would do it. There may be many shortcomings but I hope the readers of this book will forgive this. My purpose in revising this book was to give information about new developments that have taken place since the last publication. As far as possible, I have maintained the same text except for some changes here and there, and some new information which were not there in the first edition.
My grateful acknowledgments are due to several friends who have taught me many new things. My special thanks are due to my esteemed friend Dr. Albert Roy Davis, who taught me the mysteries of the bar magnet.
The first edition of this book came out in 1960 and the end of 1966 saw the 'Out of Print' notice at the publisher's end. This in itself is very remarkable, as it showed that many people, who did not know what Radiesthesia was, were actually working on its principles. The remarkable thing about the present book is that it is, to my knowledge, the only book on the subject of Radiesthesia written and published in India. There are many good books published in England, France, America and Germany, but as they are not easily available here, this book has served the purpose of satisfying the curiosity of the inquirer.
Even though the main principles have not changed much since the publication of the first edition, still some important additions have been made in the science during the last seven years. Also, I feel that some of the opinions of the Western authors on this subject should be known by the readers of this book. Some changes have been made in the original text of the book, and the last chapter on Advanced Dowsing has practically been rewritten in view of the advances made in the last seven years.
Firstly, I find that some people get confused with the two words 'Radiesthesia' and 'Dowsing'. Radiesthesia is the science dealing with the study of energy fields by sensitive individuals or the study of the human body's perception of, and reaction to ultra-low intensity radiation.
