There is a Divine Destiny, one of loving care and Motherly affection, that is larger than all of us, and shapes our lives, and the collective evolution and operation of the Universe. By direct command of that Destiny, that loving Universal Mother Amma, the Sri Peetham is created as an establishment, headed by the author, with the express purpose of revealing, disseminating and protecting the Divine Wisdom of the Universal Mother.
Thus, even as all cultures have attempted to understand, approach and get enlightened about the Divine Mother, very few, if any, have attained the level of completeness promised by the esoteric tradition of Sri Vidya. Yet, given its high amount of power and potential, and the danger of such power going into the wrong hands, throughout most of history, such information has been kept a very closely guarded secret among practitioners and followers.
In fact a certain narrative is even given for the reason of secrecy of Sri Vidya, and is narrated in the Siddha tradition, as taught by sage Agastya. This narrative starts in the episode of churning the milky cean during the incarnation of the tortoise Kurma.
Yet, how are we to harness our most complete of potentials using this equipment, unless we access its user manual? This wisdom, the knowledge and know-how of handling ourselves most efficiently and effectively, is called Vidya. Further, we do not live in an island, isolated all by ourselves, but rather in harmony and alignment with other people and with nature around us. There is often a force, a pattern seen to control all of this creation guiding it towards very precise and beautiful outcomes, and we call this as Goddess, or Sri, viewing Her as the provider, the Mother or source creatrix for all creation. Thus, the Vidya or user manual of completeness in life, as aligned with the Universal Mother Amma, is called Sri Vidya.
While once preserved and protected as very powerful, esoteric, sacred and secretive, Sri Vidya is now quite popular in spiritual circles, so much that it has become a household term.
