It is a matter of great pleasure for me to publish this second fascicule of the third volume of the Mahabharata Cultural Index containing the data of personal names with a large entry on Arjuna, the major character of the epic.

I congratulate the General Editor Prof. G. U. Thite and his Editotial Assistants for successfully bringing out this fascicule, which, I believe, shall be useful for researchers of the field.

I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude towards Smt. Vimalabai (Jiji) Neelkanth Jatar Charitable Trust, Pune, and particularly its Managing Trustee Maj.Gen. S. C. N. Jatar (Retd.) for supporting this project for the last severa years, as also to Smt. Winodini Sahasrabuddhe for her generous donation for printing this fascicule.

This is the second fascicule of the third volume, through which it is intended to record the proper names of the characters in the Mahabharata. The present fascicule contains entries beginning with Arka and ending with Arjuna. After the entries of eleven minor characters of the epic, the entry of Arjuna runs through 119 pages. While giving the details of these characters we have recorded all the information available on them in the Constituted Text as well as in the Critical Apparatus and the Appendices.

I wish to thank all the Editorial Assistants, particularly Dr. Gauri Moghe, for her help in preparing this fascicule. I thank Dr. Shrikant Bahulkar, Hon. Secretary, for identifying suitable persons for the project and encouraging them from time to time, to make efforts to get adequate funding for the sustenance of the project.
