Tamil is a unique and ancient language. Many scholars have regularly contributed to the literature on the Tamil language. Mahakavi Bharathiar is a modern poetry forerunner among those scholars. He is not just a modern poetry pioneer but also a pioneer of Tamil prose. Mahakavi insisted that the writers use only Tamil words as much as possible without mixing other languages in their texts. He is also a pioneer in the field of glossaries. Bharathi has also introduced the works of Western poets like Shelley to Tamil, so he is considered the forerunner of the art of translation.
Bharathi was concerned with Tamil growth, Indian freedom, women's empowerment, national unity, and the well-being of all people worldwide. Hence, spreading his ideas to the rest of the world is a significant Tamil task. And now, this great ambition has been fulfilled. Essays by Bharathi are important creative works in his publications. In a short period, they were translated and made into a book. This project was carried out by Dr. A. Manavazhahan, Associate Professor, Faculty of Sociology, Arts and Culture, International Institute of Tamil Studies, and Mrs. S. Malathi, Research Scholar from the same department. I express my appreciation to them.
The Honourable Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, who has announced and implemented numerous projects for the development of Tamil Nadu and the Tamil language, has announced this project to bring Bharathiyar's works and ideas to the world's attention. This endeavor will pave the way for Bharathiyar to attain international recognition. I express my gratitude to Tamil Nadu's Hon'ble Chief Minister, Thiru M.K. Stalin.
