Life should be used as a ladder, to climb. You need not believe in the ladder, but you climb it. Every incident in your life is like the ladder that enables you to climb, from the lower rung of foolishness to the higher one of wisdom. This is leadership.
What we think we are, is not what we are. There are many aspects of our self. There is this body, which is the acting self; there is an emotional self, a thinking self, a functional self and also a fundamental self. Therefore, one has to observe one's self. When one has the discipline to observe then an observing self-emerges.
A leadership alarm can one really say for sure, that the external events of life meet our internal state? Unless there is the right internal state you cannot meet the external event objectively.
The wisdom of the wise is akin to tasty recipes for bread. Hundreds of years ago someone discovered the recipe for bread but still, you can make fresh bread out of an old recipe.

Life is an opportunity for growth. Effort is the price for creating paradise on earth. The effort in practice and its rewards are deeply interlinked to the fire of attention and alertness that one gives to life. When one enjoys a roller coaster or an adventure ride, apart from the experience itself, it also reflects one's approach to the experience.
Reflect on this.
A devotee begged the Lord with his wish-list. His prayer was without gratitude or devotion; only demands. God appeared and granted him three boons. The first could be availed of right away, the second a week later and the third, at the end of a month.
The devotee wished, "Oh Lord, let my wife die. She creates hell in my life and if she goes, my life will be heavenly." Boon granted; wife died. The whole village who came over to mourn sang her praises, recounted how great his wife was, her helpful nature, love and service that they witnessed in her. It dawned on the husband that he had blundered in encashing the boon a little too soon. He felt very sad. A week passed. It was time to cash in the second boon. When the Lord appeared he instantly asked for his dead wife back.
Time rolled on. Encashment of the third boon was round the corner. He was however in a dilemma. He thought over it many times over and slowly felt the heat and the burden grow in his heart. The process zapped him.
