This is a wonderful book, written by a wonderful child. His name is Nandakumar and he is eight years old. He spontaneously desired to write the glories of Govardhan Hill upon the transformative experience he had on his first visit there. While telling the story, with a child's innocence, he gives us a special entry into the wonders of Govardhan.
I have known his mother, Madhurya Lila Devi since she was five years old. She would gleefully play in the courtyard of our ashram and would often bring her little friends to visit me in my small room. Her father and mother, Radha Krishna Prabhu and Pallika Devi imbibed in her heart a natural devotion that is filled with light, wisdom, and joy.
Years later, she married Hrishikesh Prabhu and together they have nurtured Nandakumar with the love for Krishna that is the treasure of their life. It is beautiful to observe three generations of a family sharing their love for Krishna with each other, our community and the world.
I am deeply grateful to Nandakumar and his family for their inspiring lives and specifically for this amazing book.
Now, let us take a journey into the spiritual world. Nandakumar is eager for us to join him.
In April 2019, Nandakumar and I were invited for a program at Shri Anil Agarwal's house. Nandakumar was delighted to meet one of his favorite authors there, H. G. Shubha Vilas Prabhu. He was also excited when he heard Hanuman stories from his book - The Chronicles of Hanuman', which Nandakumar had heard as bedtime stories. At the end of the program, he was gifted a few books written by Shubha Vilas Prabhu and his journey of reading began that very moment. Within days, he completed reading 'Mystical Tales for a Magical Life' and 'Perfect Love'.
And then he was struck with a thought. Could he also become an author and share his favorite stories? The books had ignited the fire within! I encouraged him and together we worked on his favorite story about how Lord Indra tries to teach the residents of Vrindavan a lesson and instead is amazed by the power of Lord Krishna and how He lifts the Mountain on a Little Finger.
Our primary source of information was lectures by His Holiness Radhanath Swami. It was a tremendous experience because writing was something I had ever thought of doing. But with Nandakumar's enthusiasm never and talent for words, it became a special, unforgettable experience! Nandakumar's purpose in writing this book is to share this wonderful pastime with other children so that they too experience the thrill he felt every time he heard this story.
Beautiful illustrations that can be colored and with exercises to tease the brains, it will be fun to read this book. It also makes a great bedtime storybook. Parents can also benefit simultaneously while reading to children to revive the rich tradition of storytelling, giving a whole new meaning to 'bedtime stories'. This charming children's story is sure to capture the hearts of parents and the child's attention.
