The tales in this book are snapshots of an unnecessary journey, undertaken by a man who did not need to go anywhere. He went in order to help people who did not want to be helped, to give them something they already had. He irritated them so badly that 99 percent of them wanted him silenced. But the remaining one percent loved him, bowed down to him and thanked him for coming. I am one of those. This is my story. This is my dance with a madman. I hope you enjoy it.
Anand Subhuti is a UK political reporter who worked in the British Houses of Parliament. For the past 35 years he has been a disciple of Osho, the spiritual mystic formerly known as Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh.< p>
For more than 20 years, according to his own wishes, the mystic formerly called Bhagwan Shri Rajneesh has been known as Osho. He changed his name in 1989, shortly before his death. This is the name I use, whenever I refer to him.
It has been difficult, therefore, to go back to his earlier name when writing this book. Yet, I feel it is necessary. So many of the situations that arose, both in India and the USA, were tagged to that name, not least Rancho Rajneesh, the City of Rajneeshpuram, The Rajneesh Bible and The Rajneesh Times.
Moreover, my narrative is almost wholly concerned with the time when he was known around the world as Bhagwan. So, against my own inclination, that's the name I have chosen to use. I hope those who are attached to his new name will forgive the transgression.
