She was a woman whose intense love of god consumed her to such a degree that she abandoned her traditional role as wife and mother. She came form one of India’s foremost families the much revered Tagore’s. She was beautiful talented and highly creative. She was a gifted artist and had an extraordinary voice but had no interest in pursuing a career. Her entire life was a personal struggle between her quest for god and the demands of family life. She was mysterious and mystical unconventional and detached. At the same time there was something deeply moving and extraordinary about her and her complete submission to the Divine Madness.

A daughter compelling account of being a witness to the profound inner changes that her mother goes through this is the story of two women and the spiritual paths they close to take in life. While those paths were different and at times divergent they came together in uniquely compelling ways. The charting of the relationship with all its joys and conflicts the loss and the pain and ultimately the healing and reconciliation mirrors the relationship of so many mother and daughters.

Born in Calcutta India on May 7, 1948 Priya Mookerjee Holds a Master’s Degree in fine arts and has worked as a graphic designer in London and New York. Author and photographer of Pathway icons the wayside art of India published by Thames & Hudson London 1987 she collaborated with her father Ajit Mookerjee and provided photographs for several of his books including yoga Art, Ritual Art of India and Kali the feminine Force.

Priya is an artist and photographer whose works have been exhibited in New Delhi London Zurich New York and San Diego. She lives in up state New York and is working on another book.
