Introduction THE NAISADHANANDA is a full-fledged Sanskrit drama of the Nataka type, composed by Ksemisvara, author of the well-known Gandakaušika. Though Peterson had seen a manuscript of it at Bündi in the Bombay Presidency in 1884, it has been taken as lost by writers on the history of Sanskrit literature, and all that was available about the work was confined to the intro ductory and concluding verses quoted by Peterson in his Report. Prof. C. Kunhan Raja discovered a manuscript of it in the Anup Sanskrit Library, Bikaner in 1941 and brought a paper transcript of it to Madras. Dr. K. Kunjunni Raja who got it from Prof. Kunhan Raja wanted to edit it, and was struggling with it since it was full of scribal errors, and particularly since it contained a great deal of Prakrit passages, without the Sanskrit chaya. Prof. A.K. Warder of Toronto University who came to Madras in 1972 was interested in the work for his project on Indian Kavya Literature. Dr. Raja re quested Professor Warder's collaboration in editing the work. Fortunately Prof. Warder was able to discover and identify another manuscript of the work in 1973 in Jodhpur; and a photo-copy was obtained in 1977. The manuscript mentioned by Peterson could not be traced at all.
