Incidence of Diabetes is increasing at an alarming rate in India. Owing to its complications like diabetic retinopathy/diabetic nephropathy, diabetes is one of the leading causes for loss of working hours and thus directly affecting the productivity. Diabetes has no longer remained a disease of rich or disease of old age. It is equally prevalent in the rural areas. The incidence of diabetes is on rise even in the younger generation in their age of 20s and 30s. In addition to sedentary lifestyle, unwholesome food habits, and lack of awareness about complications of Diabetes, the slow onset and absence of alarming symptoms to draw attention are major contributing factor to its rise. It is possible to prevent the concept of diabetes if detected in pre-diabetic stage.
