This book entitled the Nationalistic and Religious Lectures of Swami Vivekananda' is the last of the series of three books planned for giving in a short compass a summarised version of the main contents of the Works of Swami Vivekananda published in eight volumes. The sections of his works which comprise his letters, interviews, poems etc. could not be included in this scheme of abridgement.
Unlike in the previous volumes, the contents of this do not deal entirely with lectures. Several of the items like Modern India, The East and the West, Memoirs of European Travels, etc., are not lectures but writings translated from Bengali into English, and they deal not mainly with religion but with the historical development of the cultural life of the world.
The most important part of the volume is wherein the replies of the Swami to the addresses presented to him on his return to India are summarised. These great orations of the Swami should form a subject of serious study for all Indians to recapture the spiritual values that we are fast forgetting on account of the rising tide of secularism patronised by many modern Indian leaders. The Swami points out in these lectures what the genuine brand of Indian nationalism should be.
