A study of socio-cultural aspects of a period would include an analysis of the tendencies and efforts of the individuals or social groups or the State for building up the values in the society. And during the 19th century India, the tendencies and efforts of the individuals and social groups played very prominent role. It was a period when the Indian society was greatly influenced by its leaders in different walks of life. Biographical studies of such leaders would alone bring to light the true picture of the awakening and evolution of the social change and the factors that contributed to that change. The present work on Imad-ul-Mulk forms part of the programme to achieve this goal.

Imad-ul-Mulk Bilgrami was born at Bilgram in Uttar Pradesh. He was educated at Lucknow and Calcutta, Possessed of a versatile personality, he played a distinguished role in the promotion of learning throughout his life and endeavoured successfully in creating a sense of awakening among the Indian Muslims. He played a dual role by taking profound interest in the Aligarh Movement a close associate of Sir Syed Ahmed Khan and as an associate of Sir Salar Jung, the architect of modern Hyderabad. The author, Saidul Haq Imadi, narrates this dual role of Imadul Mulk in this work which is based on original contemporary and near-contemporary sources. It is hoped that this work will be welcomed by the educated elite as an exhaustive biography of -Imadul Mulk's versatile personality which played a prominent role in the shaping of socio-cultural trends in the 19th century Hyderabad.
