At the outset I record my deepest gratitude to the State Implementation Committee for giving us the opportunity to have the Nehru birth centenary celebrated in our University. I am indebted to them not only for the grant but also for their encouragement because of which we could arrange this Seminar on 'Nehru and Indian Culture' at Shri Vihar Prayer-hall. Eminent scholars who participated in this Seminar and presented their papers have done us a great favour indeed by accepting our invitation; their papers have been included in this volume alongwith a few others from scholars of eminence bearing either on Nehru or Indian Culture in a wider context. I owe my gratitude to all those who have enriched this volume by their contributions.

Dr. S. N. Mishra, the then Registrar, Mr. S. K. Chand, the then Development Officer and Mr. S. K. Dash Chaudhury, the Comptroller of Finance owe my sincere thanks for their help and active co-operation in making the Seminar a success. As a matter of fact, the entire University staff in those days worked with one mind for the success of this seminar for which I am indeed grateful. Last but not the least, my heartfelt thanks are due to Mr. S. K. Dash Chaudhury, the Comptroller of Finance, for his ungrudging co-operation in looking after the publication of this volume.
