This book serves as a valuable memory project for a society prone to forgetfulness. In his photographs and in his journal from the aftermath of the April 2015 earthquake, Kevin Bubriski invites us to remember all the lives the earthquake took, and all of the dreams it disrupted: everyday dreams of nourishment, shelter, clothing Community, Healthcare. Psychological wellbeing. Love. Knowledge:science, history. Philosophy. Wonder and amazement. Art. The dream of a rich and fulfilling life.

I had last been in Kathmandu in January for the launch of my book, Nepal: 1975-2011, a 36-year retrospective of images. My trip to Nepal in June was to see for myself old friends of years ago and to bring my camera to witness what had changed of a place and people familiar to me over the past 40 years.
