About The Author Dr. Avinash Badgujar -M.A., M.Phil, Ph.D., is the Head of the Department of English at JDMVP's A SC College, Varangaon. (Maharashtra) He is visiting faculty to North Maharashtra University, Jalgaon and several P.G. Colleges. He has edited two books Higher Education in India and Relevance of Higher Education for the Development of Human Resources. He has published a book on Stream of Consciousness Technique in Virginia Woolf and Anita Desai. He has contributed for unit writing for M.A. (IDEAL) NMU, Jalgaon. He is the Secretary of Institute of English Language, Literature and Research, Jalgaon. He has presented 25 national and 7 International papers in conferences and publishing a few dozens. His area of interest is literary theories, Linguistics and novels.

Introduction Amitav Ghosh is an important writer of present times who bears numerous mantles of responsibility in the world of the bookcase-anthropologist, sociologist, journalist, novelist, essayist, travel- writer and teacher. It has been said that Ghosh never writes the same novel twice, and yet his novels are linked together by number of common concerns like history sociology, travelling, anthropology, ethnography, society and historicity. His research in history and social anthropology, and his links with the subaltern studies project, make his novels more interesting. His writing reflects recent concerns of social anthropology with the porosity of cultural boundaries. Moreover, there is a certain presence of words in his novels relating to mystery, discovery, and related issues of knowing the unknown.
