I have been in the field of school education in different capacities for over forty years and have with a fair amount of success not only taught my subject English well but also been productively involved in school activities which I had a flair for like public speaking, quizzing, school magazine work and sports such as cricket and football.
As an educator, I was fortunate to be trained by Fr PJ Sheehy, S.D.B- my first Principal and a wonderful Salesian educator who instilled in me the great Don Bosco principles of education. Again, my association with two St Xavier's schools at Haldia and Old Delhi also played a big part in honing my skills and training me to face and overcome challenges in school education. For this I am grateful to Fr E Gales, S.J., Fr J S D'Silva, S.J. of Haldia and Bro Ittoop S.J. of St Xavier's Old Delhi. My first public school experience in New Delhi taught me what politics by teachers is like in school education and how to face it.
It was all this training and experience that helped me remain a quality educator and educational administrator in the many different schools God wanted me to serve in till the end of my career in education.
The book starts off with my experiences as an educator and educational administrator. In the next chapter I have provided. for the benefit of readers, teachers in particular, food for thought that would go a long way in making them better educators. After this, feedback from different stakeholders associated with me in my career as an educator and educational administrator is included so as to enlighten new teachers about what is required for one to become a quality educator. The feedback is in the form of short essays, letters and testimonials. In the penultimate chapter of the book, I have given certain tips for new teachers based on my experience. Considering how useful and necessary online education has become, I have, with assistance from Ms Anamika Jha of S D Public School, Pitampura, included a chapter on Online Education as the last chapter.
