It gives me immense pleasure to present PANCHABHAUTIK CHIKITSA "VOLUME -1, CHIKITSASTHANA, before all of you. This book is a compilation, edition and translation of the work of Vaidya Datarshastri, which is originally written in Marathi. It is a moment of great satisfaction to publish this book in Birth Centenery Celebration year of Vaidya Datarshastri. The next volume will follow soon. I hope to receive a good welcome from the ayurveda fraternity. This book will enlighten students, teachers and practitioners of ayurveda about clinical application of Panchamahabhuta theory.

The word Panchabhautik Chikitsa encompasses a variety of aspects regarding health, diet, exercise, profession, environment, drugs, and preparation of the medicines, diagnosis and treatment, based on Panchamahabhuta theory. The core concept involves interpretation of the scientific knowledge and disease _ management approach on the background of Panchamahabhuta theory. Despite the rich history and plentiful references in samhitas, the concept of Panchamahabhutas is poorly understood, occassionaly considered and rarely practiced. Due to Vaidya Datarshastri’s literal and professional contribution, Panchabhautik Chikitsa, is widely accepted and practiced for last many years in Maharashtra. This book intends to illustrate how Panchabhautik chikitsa is conceptualized and practiced.
